The mission
Muiso Music is dedicated to music equality and spreading the love of music. We are committed to user satisfaction, and to the highest ethical and privacy standards.

Are you tired of being told what music you like? Are you tired of being manipulated through invasive and pervasive advertising? Tired of radio stations that play for pay? Read on!

How does Muiso Music work? What does it do? Why do I even want it?

Muiso (pronounced MOO-EE-SO) is the best new way to enjoy music on your computer or mobile player. Muiso is made up of two parts - the website at muiso.com and the desktop companion software. When you run the companion software (download here) you will see a music videoish popup that shows all kinds of interesting things like:

  • Artist news (concerts, blogs, magazine articles)
  • Album reviews and thumbnails
  • Similar artists and tracks
  • People near you who love the same music
  • Personalized recommendations - don't spend hours listening to bad music, let us make honest recommendations
  • Local popularity - find the newest LOCAL bands
  • Lots of statistics, social networking fun, and so much more

Wait, we're not done yet - this is only half the magic! Don't forget about the website. Every time you use the software you are contributing are creating your own personalized online music site that your friends, family, and total strangers can enjoy. Muiso.com also has a bunch of pretty neat things:

  • Recommend music to friends tool
  • Music encyclopedia searching
  • Search for music by city
  • Make universal play lists that work on most players, and most operating systems
  • Find friends through music, and music through friends
  • See what your friends are listening to right now
  • Track what's new and popular among friends, in your city, or around the world

We've also got tools for the web geek in all of us:

  • Open RSS/XML feeds to let you share info about your music habits on your blog RSS
  • Dynamic images that show your top songs of the day in your email or website
  • Open standards, and a web service that lets you write your own client for any operating system. (We're not quite ready to share this yet, but send us an email if you can help us get on OSX or linux - our transactions are 100% lightweight XML and we will share our code)

Um.. this sounds pretty cool, but people keep telling me that the internet is an evil place and I am worried about spy ware, privacy, and lots of other things.

Your worries are valid, and we share them! Listed below is a simple breakdown of the things we do and DON'T do. Also, Please visit our privacy policy - we're proud of it.

Muiso, and the Muiso Companion desktop software DOES:

  • Watch the music you play and send us information about it (for details, see the privacy policy)
  • Optionally make samples of your music and send them to us
  • Keep track of the music you play on mobile players (IPOD and iTunes only for now)

We DO NOT:

  • Report back ANY information when you have the song tracking disabled
  • Record or track ANY video files (we don't want you to see what we look at!)
  • Send back ANY personal information from the desktop software (all information we have is entered by you on the website)
  • Let people under 14 have recent song data with times and dates viewed by anyone
  • Share personal information (INCLUDING, listening habits) to third parties, or even other websites we run.
  • EVER get paid or compensated in any way by labels or artists for recommending music - our recommendations are pure math, unlike some other sites out there, we do not violate this sacred recommendation trust.

Muiso, and this page, are works in progress. We would love to hear from you with suggestions, hate mail, or love letters. Feel free to contact me, Simon Plashkes, using  simon at muiso.com, and I will do my best to reply to you quickly.

Welcome to the revolution.
